In land area, Australia is the sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil. It has, however, a relatively small population.

The capital city of Australia is Canberra.
The population is just over 21.3 million, with approximately 60% concentrated in and around the mainland state capitals of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.

Australia is considered to have one of the highest degrees of urban concentration in the world.Despite the urban concentration, Australia has an average of three people per square kilometre, making it one of the lowest population densities in the world.
